In recent years, it has also become home to several exotic species. As of early 2020, the Brooklyn Zoo houses 864 animals, representing about 176 different species, which it estimates to be about 300 million worldwide. Among the animals are two or three types of lemurs, a giraffe, and two varieties of monkeys. The Prospect Park Zoo was originally a farm, which meant that it was not only a zoo for animals, but was an attraction for farmers as well. Now it features nine separate habitats where different types of animals can live and play. Some are large, while others are more compact. A child can interact with the animals and have fun watching them play. They can also have some educational fun learning about how animals live.
