About the Pittocks Mansion

The Pittock Mansion is an ancient French-Renaissance-styled chateau in the West Hills of Oregon, United States. It was built in 1914 by an Oregonian Oregon publisher, Henry Pittock, and his second wife, Georgianna Burton Pittock. Their marriage record mentions that they lived in France during the late nineteenth century and later immigrated to Oregon and settled at the Pittocks estate in West Hills. The couple was both avid travelers and avid readers and enjoyed their time in France. After living in France, the couple later emigrated back to America and settled at the Pittocks property in West Hills, where they built the large chateau. They were married on April 6, 1914. Portland, OR  information can be seen at this link.

The property was once a huge ranch with great size of a quarter-acre on the southeast corner of the property. However, it was later transformed into a mansion, thanks to the efforts of Henry Pittock. The original layout of the property was very similar to the Victorian mansions of the early Americans. The Victorian architecture of the chateau is quite different from its French counterpart. There are several unique features found in the architecture of the property, which is the reason why the mansion is commonly called the "Millionaire's Castle" of the Pacific Northwest.
