Business Description
Schiltz Foods, Inc. represents a unique opportunity to acquire an established, vertically integrated goose production operation with decades of history, specialized infrastructure, and significant expansion potential.
The Schiltz entities trace their roots to the late 1940s, when the business began with a hatchery and breeding stock. Over the decades, the company developed proprietary large white goose genetics and established itself as a specialized goose production operation. In 1981, operations moved to Sisseton, South Dakota, where the company transitioned into a captive hatchery and growout operation serving its USDA approved processing facility.
The operation encompasses multiple complementary facilities in South Dakota and North Dakota, including a 280-acre goose production facility near Sisseton, SD, a 160-acre breeder operation near Tolna, ND, a specialized hatchery, and a 36,062 square-foot USDA approved poultry processing facility (P-242).
The Sisseton operation includes approximately 183,300 square feet of production and storage buildings, outdoor feedlot pens, pasture and cropland, laboratory facilities, specialized egg handling capabilities, and significant water, power, manure management, and agricultural infrastructure. The North Dakota breeder operation includes approximately 42,000 square feet of production and storage space and capacity for approximately 4,800 breeder geese.
The USDA approved processing facility is designed for processing a variety of poultry species, including geese, chickens, capons, pheasants, wild turkeys, turkey hens, and ducks. Specialized equipment includes high-capacity scalding and picking systems, evisceration equipment, vacuum-sealed packaging, blast freezing capability, a 25-ton ice maker, live haul equipment, and a complete feather processing system. The facility also features capabilities include a ready to eat area with cooking and smoking equipment and facilities for rendering goose fat as well as full feather washing, sterilizing and drying system. The operation also includes laboratory and specific pathogen free (SPF) capabilities, providing additional opportunities for specialized biological and agricultural applications.
Additionally, through the research of antibody solutions and applications for the geese stock, Schiltz Goose Farm, Inc has developed polyclonal antibody therapy for canine parvovirus. The following therapy is in the final stages of USDA approval. This opportunity can be combined with the operation in its entirety or a carve out investment.
This opportunity may appeal to an experienced agricultural, poultry, food-processing, specialty livestock, or value-added food operator, or an investor looking to build upon an established infrastructure platform with multiple potential applications.
