- Why should I work with Transworld Business Advisors?
- We are the world’s largest business broker firm…about 10x larger than the next-sized organization, with over 800 brokers and 250 offices across 28 countries. We are the market share leader in Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky, with an average of 25 closed transactions annually and typically over 60 local businesses for sale at any give time. Our team of skilled, passionate, and friendly brokers works hard for our clients to deliver value and results. See our Vision and Mission Statements.
- Why should I consider selling my business now?
- Many owners wait too long—until revenue declines or burnout sets in—which will decrease the value of the business. The best time to sell is when your business is doing well, with healthy cash flow and growth potential. This attracts more buyers and helps maximize your return. This is a life decision and can be very emotional. Check out our article, "How Do You Know When it's Time To Sell Your Business?" and contact us if you want to talk. We’re here for you.
- How do I know what my business is worth?
- A business valuation analyzes your company’s financials, operations, assets, and market conditions. Transworld can perform a professional valuation to give you a realistic range of what your business is worth—and show you how to increase that value before going to market.
- What does the selling process look like with Transworld?
- Will Transworld help me find the right buyer?
- Absolutely. We market your business through a combination of online platforms, buyer databases, personal outreach, and our global network. Our team screens prospects to ensure confidentiality and only brings you serious, qualified buyers.
- How long does it take to sell a business?
- On average, it takes 9 months to sell a small business. At Transworld our average is 6-7 months. The timing of selling your business will depend on the industry, price point, buyer demand, and how well your business is prepared. Transworld will work to streamline the process and bring only qualified buyers to the table.
- Will my employees, suppliers, clients, or competitors know I’m selling?
- We go to market in a way that attracts buyers without divulging any details about your business. We require all buyers to sign a non-disclosure agreement (NDA). Then, and only then, do we share an Executive Summary on your business.
- How will a buyer fund the transaction?
- Buyers can fund the purchase of your business a number of ways. Cash, bank financing, a seller’s note, or some combination of all three are very typical. Unsure of seller financing or don’t know what this is? Read our blog article, "What is Seller Financing for a Business?" to learn more.
- Can I sell my business if I still owe money or have loans?
- Yes. Many businesses are sold with some debt in place. Our brokers can help you structure a deal that works for your financial situation, including satisfying outstanding obligations as part of the closing, or maintaining those debts with you to pay off with the closing proceeds.
- What if I want to stay involved after the sale?
-
Many sellers remain involved for a transition period—typically 30 to 90 days. Some even stay longer in a consulting or part-time role. Your exit plan can be tailored based on what’s best for you, the buyer, and the business. This is all negotiated during the process.
- Do I need financials and other documentation ready before listing?
- What types of businesses does Transworld sell?
-
We are agnostic to industry, size, or situation. Most businesses are cash-flowing, while others are asset sales, and some include real estate. We happily offer a variety of business opportunities throughout the Tri-State area. Yours can be next! Whatever your industry or situation is, we can help you find a great buyer!
- Can you sell my commercial real estate as well?
- Yes, we often market commercial real estate opportunities, sometimes with a business included, and sometimes without. We maintain confidentiality on the real estate as well, which other commercial real estate agents can’t do.
- What does it cost to work with Transworld?
- We are success-based, meaning we only get paid when your business sells. There is typically no upfront fee and no retainers. Our compensation is a percentage of the final sale price, which we’ll discuss transparently before listing.
- Can Transworld help me sell a business outside of Ohio or Northern Kentucky?
- Yes. Transworld is a global firm with 250+ offices and over 800 brokers worldwide. While we’re local experts in Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky, we can refer or collaborate across markets to help you sell wherever your business is located.
- Can Transworld help me value by business so I know what it’s currently worth?
- YES! We can execute an official business valuation of any size. The process takes about 2-4 weeks depending on business size and complexity and cost varies. Contact us to learn more about how we can help!
- Will I need an attorney?
- Yes, you will eventually need an attorney, but not right away. Once you start the process with us, we will help match you with a great small business transaction attorney that will help you get the deal done, at reasonable rates.
- Will I need an accountant?
- Yes, you will eventually need an accountant, but not necessarily right away. Once you start the process with us, we will help match you with a great small business accountant or tax strategist if you don’t already have one.
- Won’t I have to pay taxes on my sale proceeds?
- Yes, some taxes will most likely be unavoidable, but a good tax strategist can help you along the way. Once you start the process with us, we will help match you with a great small business accountant or tax strategist if you don’t already have one.
- What is the difference between an asset sale and a stock sale?
- Should I try to sell my business on my own?
- It’s not advisable. Selling a business is a full-time job. Do you have time for another full-time job? (No!) Will you be able to maintain business operations and growth while taking on the burden of a business transaction? (No!) Will you be able to maintain confidentiality? (No!) Don’t take the risk! Contact us today and let us work hard to get a great exit for you and your family!
- I received a letter from your company. Why?
- We value our fellow local small businesses! When we see or research a successful small business, we often reach out to see if you’ve considered selling. Chances are, your business has value and we have a buyer! Contact us and let’s chat!
