Sell Your Franchise in California

Franchise resales in food, fitness, education and home services.

Your franchisor gets a vote on your sale. Bring them in early and that vote works for you.

Buyers pay for a brand that works, a track record at your location and enough years left to earn their money back. Your franchisor decides who gets in. Transworld Veritage helps franchise owners price the unit on real numbers and find buyers the franchisor will approve.

What a franchise unit sells for, and what decides where yours lands

The brand is the same for every buyer who looks at the system. Your location’s numbers are what make your unit different.

Two units of the same brand can sell for very different prices. Years left on the agreement, SBA eligibility, remodel timing and how your unit performs against the system decide where yours falls. Your franchisor's view of you matters too.

Three of those factors are in the check below. The rest are in the scorecard.

Four kinds of buyers buy franchise resales

The franchisor has to approve whoever you pick. Starting with buyers it already trusts saves months.

Existing franchisees in the systemThey already passed the franchisor's screening and know the model. Adding your unit can fill out their territory. Expect a sharp eye on the numbers.

Franchise resale questions

Can my franchisor stop me from selling?

In California, a franchisor cannot prevent a sale to a buyer who meets its current approval standards and complies with the agreement. It can still require written consent, apply its standards, and use a right of first refusal if your agreement has one.

Why does the SBA Franchise Directory matter?

Many resale buyers use SBA financing. Since June 1, 2025, a lender generally needs the brand to be listed in the SBA Franchise Directory to move forward on an SBA loan. If your brand is not listed, your buyer pool shrinks.

Will my staff and customers find out?

Not from us. Marketing uses a blind profile, buyers sign an NDA, and we coordinate the timing of any franchisor communication with you.

Know what your franchise is worth before your term, or your franchisor, sets the clock.

A confidential conversation is the right first step, whether you plan to sell this year or before your next renewal. You get a value range and a clear view of who would buy, with no obligation.
